This region is very rich in forests and has a centuries-old tradition in wood production. The "Styrian wood road" (Steirische Holzstrasse) leads through 24 locations in the area and connects a myriad of historic and modern buildings. Visitors can take advantage of guided and professional tours. In 2008 (on the 2nd of August) the wood road race took place and on the 3rd of August the wood street parade and festival was held. The beautiful nature attracts many guests to the region. Explore the area via one of the many signposted trails which wind along mountain peaks such as Greim (2,474 m) and Sölkpass (1,788 m), picturesque mountain lakes (Zwiefler lakes, Kaltenbach lakes, Lake Rettl, the Funklsee) and the waterfall of Günster. Along the way you can relax at one of the many mountain huts. Every July there is an organized trip to the Sölkpass (Sölkpasswanderung). In addition to being a sportsman's paradise, the mountains of Austria are a balm for both body and soul. St. Peter's am Kammersberg lies on the route of the Alpine Tour (part of the several thousand kilometer route for mountain bikers). There are countless routes in this region, which vary from difficult to long. Guides can help you with maps and route planning. There are shorter, easier hikes for families, and 30-35 kilometer mountain tours for active cyclists. In the neighboring villages of Schöder and Baiersdorf there is the possibility for horseback riding, pony rides and horse-drawn carriage rides. At the riding stables you can also attend a horse riding course. A curiosity for children is the riding kindergarten and pony-walking every Wednesday (in July and August). Rafting tours take place twice daily from June to September in the romantic Murtal. Equipment and boat guides are secured. After a brief inquiry you can choose from two routes. Other special programs: Riverboggie and Cannoning. The streams of the mountains are very rich in trout. In the beck Katschbach you can angle from the 15th of March to the 15th of September. The bobsled track in St. Lambrecht, miniature golf course in Krakow and the narrow village are sure to be a pleasant experience for both adults and children. The swimming pool in Malmesbury and the beach in St. Peter's am Kammersberg are also worth a visit. Tennis courts are about 2 kilometers away. For golfers there is a golf course in Kreischberg. The adventurous can also try para-gliding.
Austria offers excellent winter tour opportunities, where the focus is on the beauty of the winter scenery and lots of fresh air! The routes here are regularly cleared and maintained during winter providing hikers with many opportunities. Furthermore, you can plan a pleasant trip and don't have to worry about getting stuck in the snow. Don't let the early winter sunset stop you either - take a romantic trip with a pit head lamp. There are regularly scheduled moonlight tours and enterprising and athletic hikers can also tour with snowshoes (you don't have to know anything about the pristine winter landscape, just attach the snowshoes to your boots and let the "Trapper Tour" begin!). Winter sports fans can enjoy 4 easy-to-reach ski resorts (Frauenalpe, Grebenzen, Kreischberg and Lachtal) with slopes totaling 100 kilometers. Other possibilities include: skiing, snowboarding, half-pipe, ice skating, tubing, a sled slope, horse-drawn carriage rides, and for the little ones: a dinosaur park, magic carpet and trampoline. Ski lessons are available for beginner to advanced.
